Sue McHugh SBA Fellow

I was so lucky to grow up surrounded by garden lovers. My Grandad grew Sweet Peas and roses. He would cut us bunches so huge, we couldn’t hold the wiry stems in one hand! He cultivated almost every type of rose you can think of and I grew up with a love for all plants, flowers and trees.

My Mum taught me to paint when I was young, mainly birds or horses and she nurtured my interest in capturing the finer detail.

I studied Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University, subsequently working as an artist in the games and film industry for over 27 years! I am now working as a botanical artist developing a new collection of botanical works from across the Liverpool region.

I have worked with a wide range of games, film and TV companies including Sony, BBC, Sumo, F1, Netflix, ITV, Sky and Standard Chartered. I am a Fellow member of the Society of Botanical Artists and my work has been exhibited with The Royal Society of British Artists. I am a tutor, lecturer and mentor to fine art, games, film and graphics students of all levels.

This is one of my favourite pictures and shows why I have a love for capturing wonderful flowers in watercolours.
